Day 3 – they say the devil is in the details

So I wasn’t sure what to expect but I gotta tell ya Devil’s Tower (Or as the Native Americans call it Bear Lodge) was fascinating! The Tower is formed of a rare igneous rock, phonolite porphyry, and is the largest example of columnar jointing in the world.) The sheer size of this thing is (867 ft), so it’s something to behold. We hiked 8 miles today through 3 main connecting trails. Two of the trails are an upper and lower loop around the formation (Red Beds & Devil’s Tower trail) The 3rd trail Joyner’s trail leads away from the tower to an outer perimeter a couple of miles out. There were also at least 8 people climbing it to the top which is crazy to see them up there.

Make sure you arrive here by 930 or after 3. When we were leaving there was a crazy long line of cars waiting to get up there and they were only releasing new cars when a car came back down.

Got back to our campsite earlier today. We had an awesome location with an added bonus round of putt putt.

Great photos! What kind of campsite food are you guys eating? 8 miles of hiking is probably making you really hungry!

    1. We have a variety of things I can cook on our propane grill. Using a Yeti I was able to bring some protein and vegetable options, but also carbs like pasta and Mac and cheese. Instant hiking meals are nice as well adding boiling water.

  5. Very nice pics and info. Loving the tent on the bed cab idea. And look at those calves–“old man” still has it haha
